Currently pursing Master of Social Work
She/Her
Yongyi Wang is a Master of Social Work (MSW) student at the University of Michigan
School of Social Work, pursuing the Interpersonal Practice Pathway on the 20-month
schedule. She holds an undergraduate background in psychology, with strong training
in research, academic writing, and human development. Her academic and professional
interests focus on mental health, family dynamics, and the ways social and relational
contexts shape individual well-being.
Yongyi has experience in both research and applied settings. During her undergraduate
studies, she conducted research on the role of family support in student development
and completed advanced coursework emphasizing critical analysis and scholarly
writing. She also interned at a counseling center in China, where she assisted with
gathering information related to communication and coordination between adolescents
and their families, and supported the development of educational materials focused on
emotional regulation and healthy relationships.
In addition, Yongyi participated in a community-based reading program for
kindergarten-aged children, where she read picture books and engaged directly with
young learners. This experience strengthened her comfort working with children and
deepened her interest in family- and child-centered practice. She is committed to
continued professional growth and is particularly interested in developing skills in
assessment, counseling, and family-focused interventions. Yongyi also has an academic
interest in language learning, including Spanish and Japanese, and values culturally
responsive approaches in mental health practice.
